Performing Company and Competition Students

Students are selected by audition only, and it's members perform in shows throughout the year. Our students have performed in Atlantic City, Myrtle Beach, Disney World, Hawaii Hula Bowl, Pro Bowl, Hollywood Winners Showcase, New York Success America, Europe USO, Liberty Misses Tour, Macy's Parade, New York Beginnings and Star Systems Television Show.  They have performed for Wolcott View Manor, Girls Inc. as well as the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Tap-a-thon. Our students have won over 300 awards and scholarships this past year.

We feel competition is a vehicle through which learning is continued. It provides a challenging way to test your skills, abilities, technique, and knowledge.

Our Competition Students

This year our competition students entered four major dance and talent competitions:  Star Systems, Dance U.S.A., Barabran and Dance Arts Plus, along with a talent competition at the Wolcott High School.  They all worked extremely hard and did excellent. The students entered a total of 170 dance and modeling routines and received a total of 7 Platinum, 49 High Gold, 109 Gold and 5 High Silver Awards. They also received 51 Special Awards including several “High Score Overall” and  “1st Place Champions”, “Best Ballet Technique”, "Best Lyrical Interpretation", "Ecstatic Energy", "Amazing Potential", "Dynamic Duo", "Prima Ballerina", "Morning Glory", "Great Patterns", "Top Overall Model", and "Top Overall Photogenic".  Five titles were won: "Petite Miss Barabran", "Miss Barabran", "Little Miss Dance Arts Plus", "Jr. Miss Dance Arts Plus", and "Miss Wolcott 2006".

The competitions team group jazz "Fosse's World" did especially well winning 3 Overall High Score Group Awards: "Best Musical Selection" and "Great Fosse Technique".  The students qualified for 4 National Finals and will be attending the Dance U.S.A. Finals in the Bahamas in July.  We’re so proud of all the competition students and wish them good luck in the Nationals.

Star Systems and Dance U.S.A.

On February 25th  & 26th the competition students from the Wolcott Dance Academy entered the Star Systems National Talent Competition and on March 10-12 they competed in "Dance USA."  Both competitions were held at The Performing Arts Theater in Hartford.  The competition team entered 42 entries in both competitions and did very well. They received a total of 8 Platinum, 72 High Gold & Gold, 3 Silver and 9 First Place Champion Awards.  They also received numerous special awards including "Amazing Potential" for Lisa Dolan's solo tap, "Dynamic Duo", for Emma Bolduc-Patterson and Stephanie Vargas' jazz "Ecstatic Energy", for Cythia Dias' solo jazz and "Morning Glory" for Melisa Tupkusic.  Among the top overall special awards were "Top Model" and "Overall Photogenic" for Cynthia Diax, "4th Place Champion Overall Duo/Trio for Cynthia Dias, Malia Rascoe and Stephanie Vargas trio ballet, "5th Place Overall Large Groups" for Fosse's World plus a "High Score duo" and "High Score Solo" Award.  In Star Systems "Miss Superstar" title division they won 4 "Top Finalist Awards", and in the title categories in Dance USA, they received 5 "Top Finalists Awards".



Duo Team

Cynthia Dias, 6 years old and Ashley DeLeo, 15 years old, both received a scholarship award, a large Overall Trophy, and a jacket in the Star Systems Competition, and Miss Nicole received 2 "Top Overall Teacher" plaques.

The group jazz dance, "Fosse's World" received a $100 scholarship from Dance USA for the National Finals which the dancers will be attending in Nassau, Bahamas this July.

The competition students are:  Emma Bolduc-Patterson, Michelle Carichner, Samantha D'Angelo, Danielle David, Ashley DeLeo, Cynthia Dias, Alessandra Diaz, Lisa Dolan, Melissa Doyle, Chelsea Hart, Ashley Jacobson, Kristina Jacobson, Jenna Masotta, Amanda Morelli, Malia Rascoe, Heather Rice, Victoria Sforza, Mackenzie Tearman, Melisa Tupkusic, Stephanie Vargas, Erin Ward, and Makayla Wagner.

Their teachers, Linda Eustace and Nicole Zimyeski were so pleased and proud of all of them as were the students parents.



April 2006

The students at the Wolcott Dance Academy under the direction of Linda Eustace and Nicole Zimyeski entered 2 competitions and did an outstanding job.  In the "Barabran Stars of the Future" competition, the dancers received 40 1st place awards along with several special awards.

Jenna Masotta won "Overall High Score Solo", the group jazz "Fosse's World" won "Best Musical Selection" and "Overall High Score" for groups, McKenzie Tearman won "Best Overall Ballet Technique", and in the title categories, Cynthia Dias won "Petite Miss Barabran" and Lisa Dolan won the "Miss Barabran" title.  The Wolcott Dance Academy and teachers were singled out and given a special award for "Best Overall Ballet Technique".

In the last week of April, the dancers competed in the "Dance Arts Plus Performing Arts Competition" and received 3 Solid Gold Awards which is within 5 points of a perfect score, 35 High Golds and 4 Golds along with several special awards.  Cynthia Dias won the title "Little Miss Dance Arts Plus" and McKenzie Tearman won "Jr. Miss Dance Arts Plus".  This title included a solo dance performance, a formal modeling performance and a photogenic entry.  Cynthia also won "Overall High Score Solo" and a Solid Gold award for her jazz dance.  She was also given a special award "Great Technique".  Lisa Dolan won a special award for the 3 'C's for her solo tap dance, "Crisp, Clean, Clear Taps".  McKenzie Tearman also won a Solid Gold for her ballet dance and received a special award "Prima Ballerina".  Samantha D'Angelo, Melissa Doyle and Erin Ward won a special award for their trio tap "Great Patterns and Lines", and Amanda Morelli won a cash prize and trophy for her Solid Gold photogenic and was "Overall High Score Photogenic" winner.  Stephanie Vargas and Emma Bolduc-Patterson won 1st overall duo/trio, jazz.  Melissa Doyle won 1st place in modeling and Stephanie Vargas, Malia Rasco and Cynthia Dias won High Score Dup/Trio Overall.  The Group Jazz "Fosse's World" won High Gold, 1st in Category and a special award for "Great Fosse Technique".  And once again, the dance academy and teachers were given a special award for "Best Overall Ballet Technique".

The competition dancers could not have been more excited or pleased with their awards.  Now they will be preparing for their annual recital which will be on June 3rd at the Wolcott High School, and also preparing for Dance U.S.A.'s national finals being held in Nassau, Bahamas in July.
